Aged gallon and half-gallon mixed SPS reefs 2001-2010
First of all let me say how great it is to find your forum. I didn't know a posting forum for the great coral magazine was available until I clicked out of curiosity.
I come from the posting boards who have kept micro reefs, extremely small reefs, over the years and we were amazed to see the truly tiny tanks break into the press when you all released that special issue on the sub gallon reefs. We sure have lots of follow up questions about these reefs listed in the magazine, it would be amazing if I could chat with anyone who worked with that project in design or print layout...please email me or hit me up on youtube comments Id really like to know some of the history behind palmtop reef aquariums and Im thinking Daniel Knop may be one of the best people to ask.
To introduce my aquariums Id like to start out by mentioning my technique is centered around evaporation control or stoppage in the manner of controlling topoff. Through advances in salinity control I have been able to experiment with micro SPS tabular growth along with studies in allelopathy, asexual reproduction and dosing strategies for the pico reef and this is just one of many successful ways of getting a reef to grow in the confines of a small aquarium system. This video showcases nearly a decade of pico reef design and in the US we started seeing these roughly in 2001. I'd love to hear the German legacy of micro reefs and if I could get some pictures or video that would be even better, we are impressed with your work! Thanks for taking time to read my links and watch the vid, you are all advancing pico reef science in a great way.
