Man sleeps with dolphin and writes over it
Malcom Brenner's book "Wet Goddess" has become an unexpected hit with a five-star ranking on Amazon.com.. The book is fiction. It recounts the tale of a male who was lured by and had a romance with a dolphin called Ruby. But Brenner demands the tale is situated on truth. He says he had a nine-month romance with a dolphin called Dolly in 1970. Source of article: Author based book on real affair he had with a dolphin
The Dolphin
Sixty year old Malcolm Brenner was a sophomore at Sarasota’s Brand new university of Florida in 1970. He had a romance with a dolphin called Dolly at that point. He took pictures that year at a theme park called Floridaland in Nokomis, Florida. A children’s book writer employed him to do this. He was given free reign of the park for the assignment.
Brenner explains it all
Brenner does not claim to have started it. He states it was all from Dolly.
"She became more and more aggressive," Brenner said. "She would thrust herself against me. ... I found that extraordinarily erotic. It's like being with a tiger or a bear. This is an animal that could kill you in two seconds if it wanted to."
Then, the relationship turned into love. It blossomed easily. "After we made love, the dolphin put her snout on my shoulder, embraced me with her flippers and we stared into each other’s eyes for about a minute."
But all good things must come to an end. After nine months of seeing each other on the sly, the theme park was sold to become a tract of housing. Dolly moved to Gulfport Mississippi to another park. Brenner ended up moving to Washington state for law school too.
Dolly died easily
Brenner had decided he was going to make a trip to visit his old lover. Fate stopped him though. About nine months after the two were split up, Dolly died.
"As self-aware mammals, dolphins are capable of making profound emotional attachments to other dolphins and, apparently, to selected humans as well," Brenner said to the Huffington Post. "A dolphin can die of loneliness, of a broken heart, of separation anxiety."
People upset about the tale
Experts are criticizing Brenner for his glorification of inter-species romance.
"Glorifying human sexual interactions with other species is inappropriate for the health and wellbeing of any animal," said Dr. Denise Herzing of the Wild Dolphin Project. "It puts the dolphin's own health and social behavioral settings at risk."
Brenner, however, defends his relationship and his message.
"Some people find it hard to imagine that I wasn't abusing the animal," Brenner said. "They didn't see me interacting with the dolphin. They weren't there. These creatures basically have free will ... What is repulsive about a relationship where both partners feel and express love for each other? This was not some dog trying to hump my leg, okay. This was a 400-lb. wild-born female dolphin. She was an awesome creature."
Everybody happy to read his story
Brenner left “Wet Goddess” alone after having no time. In 1974, he did start the writing process. He took it up again in 1994, when he had some emotional distance and was more experienced as an author. He finished the book in 2000 and tried unsuccessfully to discover a publisher for 10 years. Last year, he finally published the book. Since then, it has become a best-seller on Amazon, prompting interviews and media attention.
