Matthias Schmidt is one of Europe's leading aquarium and pet husbandry publishers and head of Natur und Tier-Verlag GmbH, located in Münster, Germany.
He sought out Daniel Knop in 1999 and together they created KORALLE, the parent title that is translated into English, French, Italian, Polish, and Russian, making it the leading reef and marine aquarium periodical in the world.
He is also the publisher numerous books and six other magazines: REPTILIA, TERRARIA, DRACO, MARGINATA, RODENTIA, and the new AMAZONAS, devoted to freshwater aquariums.
