Very well written and informative article. At almost every point during the read, when a question came to mind, it was thoroughly answered in the following sentence or two.
A couple of questions for Murray....
I have a 5 year old 120G system that, for 4 years, was just a basic LPS/Softie tank with minimal attention to testing detail. However, about a year ago, I added a refugium, a better skimmer, upgraded my lighting (Phoenix MH & ATI T5s) and became very anal about all levels of testing, parameters, etc. Within a month of the improvements, my nitrate and phosphate levels fell to undetectable levels (Salifert), and they've remained that way ever since.
As my focus has centered on SPS corals (I have about 20 or so species and I would grade their colors from C+ to A-, I am wondering if a move to a DIY Carbon Source feeding system would be advised to take things to the "next level". Also, since I'm starting from undetectable nitrate and phosphate levels, would the ongoing maintenance dosage you suggest (1/2 of levels where most people peak and see a drop in nitrate and phosphate levels to undetectable levels)be a good starting point for my system, or would you still recommend the full method you described in your article?
If I do, indeed, decide to go forward with this, I intend to go VGV starting out with Probidio Bio Digest. When you started out, did you go with the manufacturers recommended dosage, and do you continue to dose with Bio Digest as part of ongoing maintenance?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
Jake
