thank you Daniel Knop
First off thank you for the best reef magazine there is. i have every issue of the US version. i eagerly await each issue.
and more specifically for your synopsis of your problems with your 1500 gallon system as told in the Large Reef Tank issue of a couple of years ago on pg 42.
i had forgotten about that until my friend Jaki reminded me after she visited my house and noticed a chemical smell in the closet where i have the surge tanks for my system.

this closet has been closed and has high humidity and condensation on the walls. one door is out side the house. so has more temperature variation. this closet and the garage where the sumps are were painted with mold resistant paint unlike the rest of the house.
you see, i have been having the same problems you describe in the synopsis. corals dying with no apparent cause.
i only have a few corals left in the system some of which are among the ones that survived in your system. Heliopora, bubble tip anemones, Gorgonian, a large Plerogyra, ricordia, Micromussa, a Platygyra that is starting to lose tissue. the fish and clams are doing fine.

yesterday we started to paint over the anti mold paint with an Acrylic Latex with zero VOC's from www.mythicpaint.com
that should be complete in a few days. then i hope to have the same experience you had with the renewed growth.
i would be interested to know what the last two years have been like for your big tank.
thanks again for a fantastic magazine.
Carl
